The Liebster Award

For those of you who don’t know, the Liebster Award is for bloggers with under 500 followers. If you are nominated you are set 11 questions to answer from the person who nominated you. It is a chance for others to discover new blogs.

I have been nominated by the lovely Charlotte from lovefromcharlotte.co.uk (Thanks again Charlotte!) and here are the 11 questions she set me to answer:

What was your reason for setting up your Blog?

I set up Heart + Bowl after a long period of ill-health. I had 18 months of seeing numerous doctors and specialists to try and diagnose my digestive issues, fatigue, skin rashes, and muscular + joint pain. After all that time, I still did not have a diagnosis, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and look at the things I could do myself that may help my overall health. I did a lot of research online about food allergies and intolerances, and a lot (if not all) of the symptoms listed were the same as my own. So I decided to make the commitment to cut out wheat, gluten and dairy – and I’ve never looked back from there! My health improve drastically, and I started to really enjoy leading a healthy lifestyle. So I started Heart + Bowl as a way of helping myself, and others with a food allergy or intolerance to find fun and new possibilities in the kitchen. I have always been a massive foodie, so I took my food sensitivities and turned them into something good, and that was the beginning of Heart + Bowl.

What is the best holiday you have been on in the past?

I think one of my childhood holidays to the Peak or Lake District. They remind me of a simpler time, and of being close to my family and with nature.

Sweets or chocolate?

100% Chocolate. I’ve always been a chocolate girl. Plus, after pretty much cutting out refined sugar from my diet, most sweets just taste too sweet for me these days! Dark chocolate is one of my favourite things to snack on. I also love Booja Booja‘s handmade truffles which are chocolates made in my home county of Norfolk! They use only the finest organic ingredients and are all dairy, gluten + soya free! I’m also a bit of a sucker for Ombar chocolate too, as they use raw cacao, and add coconut sugar to sweeten, and live cultures for some probiotic goodness! Gnaw are another one of favourites, also local to Norfolk, they have so many super fun and different flavour combinations. I recently used some of their incredible chocolate in my 2nd Blogiversary post. Sorry, I’m going to stop talking about Chocolate now…

What do you do for a living?

I work as an Editor at Video Marketing company, Lambda Films. We make promotional videos on a local and international level. Previously, I studied Film and Television Studies at the University of East Anglia, so this was a dream job to land! Upon graduating I managed to secure an internship at Lambda, which later lead to full-time employment. I feel so lucky to work with the people I do, in such a fun and creative environment. I get to edit and do what I love everyday, with people that have become like a family to me.

Favourite film?

Impossible to answer! I’m an ex-film student! Getting a degree in Film Studies pretty much qualifies you for never being able to have a favourite film, because you love too many aspects of too many films. I could try and give you a Top 100?

Nope? Ok then.

Dress for comfort or style?

Somewhere in-between.

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?

About 30 minutes.

Do you have any pets?

Sadly at this moment in my life I don’t own any pets. I rent a small flat in Norwich, and I don’t think my landlord would allow it. But I dream of the day that I can get my own dog. Recently I’ve fallen in love with Cockapoos, and would one day like to have one and call it something stupidly cute and inappropriate.

Is there anyone who inspires you?

I find myself inspired by ordinary people daily. My mum inspires me to be selfless and positive. My partner inspires me to be patient and kind. My best friend inspires me to be confident and creative.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

There’s not one big achievement I could name, as I have a handful of moments in my life I’m proud of. They include things like, getting my degree from the University of East Anglia, landing my job at Lambda Films, and setting up Heart + Bowl of course! But really, I feel some of my biggest achievements are everyday things, like managing my anxiety, maintaining great friendships and showing my family how much I love them.

Favourite thing to do on your days off?

Blogging of course!! But when I’m not working on Heart + Bowl, you’ll probably find me in a tearoom or coffee shop somewhere, spending time with friends + family, creating in the kitchen, exploring Norwich and other UK cities, or in the cinema catching a film (or two!)
